Connecting smaller stories to the larger historical context
and in-depth journalism to academic research;
that's what I do as a journalist and historian.
I studied History in Amsterdam and Italy and graduated in human rights issues during the liberation struggle in Namibia. Thereupon I spent two years at research institute African Study Centre working on a history project on development studies in Cameroon, Zambia, Mali and Bolivia and later I published a book on Dutch involvement in Zambia. I recently participated in a fellowship at research institute KITLV on the project Dutch military behavior in Indonesia 1945 - 1950. Currently I am working on a book about the decolonization process on the island of Bali at NIAS institutein Amsterdam.
I write for NRC Handelsblad and Vrij Nederland.
For the NPO I appeared on Buitenhof, Reporter Radio and Nieuwsuur.
